Google Earth

Google Earth combines satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google Search to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips.

Some suggested uses:

  • Amaze your friends with the proximity of Superfund sites to their homes.
  • Shock your family with the overwhelming loss of natural areas to strip malls & condos.
  • Horrify coworkers with the mindnumbing number of roadways that cut through our parkland.

I have not had a really good look at google earth but was staggered at what I could see on the demo version. I can see individual Nymphaea specimens at a botanic garden I used to work at so I'm assuming this could be used geo-reference specimens? I am increasingly using the USGS geonames database & Topozone to browse to localities and record the geo-reference for a voucher specimen.

OK now I am really impressed you can record lats and longs of individual trees (even elevations) but how accurate is this?
